This was supposed to be brief.

Name: Becca Nova - legally changed from Rebecca MacDonald.
Nickname: Bex/Becks. Red. She will accept most pet names or nicknames people give her. Just beware her wrath if she's called Becky or Rebecca, lol.
Age: Generally mid-late 20s, but I am willing to write her anywhere from teens on up (eventually I will upload alternate icons).
Hometown: By default it's outside of Cleveland, OH. Totally down to AU her growing up anywhere, though.
Currently Resides: Any big city, but she'd be unlikely to go anywhere near her hometown. She definitely prefers an urban environment.
Height: 5'2
General Description: Slim and petite build, natural red hair (sometimes dyed blonde or darker red/black). Her clothing is generally anywhere from casual to business dress. When she dresses down, she may wear graphic t-shirts with quirky images/text, flannels, with jeans. More dressed up, she'll wear skirts and dresses, cute sweaters and other blouses. Office wear, but make it fashion? She likes looking and feeling Put Together. Also, she's left-handed.
Distinguishing Marks: There is a small scar on the right side of her forehead from a childhood fall. Small burns or other injuries may be visible on her hands and forearms from work-related accidents. Clumsy barista, look out. She has one piercing in each earlobe, usually preferring to wear simple earrings like studs or small hoops. Her nipples are also pierced, with a barbell going through each. She has no tattoos (yet).
Personality: Becca's personality does tend to shift from her teen years into adulthood, and while at her core she keeps the same interests and values, she's definitely more extroverted and confident as she gets older. Getting away from her hometown and family is absolutely the initial cause of this shift. She is friendly when meeting new people, but can overshare or make inappropriate jokes/comments, or otherwise put her foot in her mouth. This bothers her a lot less as an adult than as a teen; where in her teen years an awkward interaction might haunt her afterward, adult Becca sees this a culling of sorts. Her attitude shifts toward an air of, "If I'm too much for them, they should go find less" during college and beyond. She can be cynical and pessimistic about the world and society at large, though she can be less so about individual people she meets. She is chock-full of random facts about all of the dark topics she researches, and is quick to share them even when it may not be the appropriate setting to do so. Showing interest in her interests is perhaps the fastest way to gain her favor, especially if that interest is genuine. More about her personality can be found here and here.
Alignment: She's self-interested, focused on her own interests and needs. If she happens to get close enough to anyone to have feelings for them, be it in a platonic or romantic way, that focus will extend to them. Her adherence to laws and rules depends on how and whether it will be of any benefit. Becca can be vengeful and spiteful, though she rarely takes any negative action toward others. She fantasizes about doing so, but is often too afraid to act on it. At her worst, she may have these dark thoughts about random strangers, about emulating the killers she researches. At the same time, she likes doing nice things to help people. For example, giving "samples" of free drinks at her shop. If she wants to impress someone, this is pretty much her go-to for doing so. If she seems inconsistent, that's because she is. Becca is chaotic in a way that suggests randomness, or extreme changeability. Whether she's closer to good or evil often depends on her mood and the influence of those around her. She's very suggestible, and prone to being taken advantage of or manipulated by anyone with any kind of power.
Sexuality and Gender Identity: Becca would describe herself as pansexual. A person's sex or gender identity has no bearing on her sexual attraction to them. This is not limited to humans, but extended to any humanoid being, or perhaps androids or other similar artificial lifeforms. Her gender identity is that of a cisgender woman. She presents as such, though she does enjoy wearing suits and some casual clothes that may be considered more masculine or gender neutral. She rejects the idea of a strict gender binary even as she identifies as female. Guys can wear makeup and skirts, she can wear a suit and tie. It's fine.
Romantic Inclinations: She is quick to profess that she Doesn't Do Feelings, but of course she Does. These feelings are not always healthy ones, as she is capable of obsessive tendencies, co-dependence, and jealousy/possessiveness. Again, this makes her vulnerable to manipulation. That said, most of her relationships have been more sexual in nature. Friends with benefits, or BDSM-type interactions in which she is the submissive. Becca is starved for genuine affection, though she feels both undeserving of it, and utterly clueless as far as how to go about receiving it. As a result she seeks out casual encounters, but tends to drop off if the other person starts to show feelings that make her uncomfortable. She's extremely uninterested in marriage and having children, to the point where she'll say (mostly hyperbolic) she'd rather die than do either. This is mostly due to religious trauma - her upbringing hammered home the point that women exist for child-rearing and being subservient to their husbands. Perhaps if she were in a healthier mental place, she may be convinced to adopt, foster, or act as a step-mom. But for the most part the topic of motherhood is kind of triggering for her. A little more info about this can be found here.
Her romantic history is made up largely of heartbreaks, one night stands, and arrangements that were purely sexual in nature, usually dominant/submissive with Becca as the submissive. She wants (almost desperately wants) to fall in love and be loved in return, but she is hesitant to enter into a romantic relationship - her attempts at such in the past all ended poorly. One boyfriend was dating her for a bet, another boyfriend cheated on her, and a girlfriend was essentially using her for sex while stringing the relationship along. As a result, she is very insecure and finds it hard to really believe anyone who says they have romantic feelings for her. This can be overcome with time and trust gained; she can very much get to a point where she feels secure in a relationship. She is, however, extremely hesitant to say she loves someone. it's something she takes very seriously, because she's been lied to so much - "I love you" and "I promise" are things she will not say unless she absolutely means them.
She is happy to take on the submissive role in a relationship or sexual partnership, and while she does enjoy some level of disparaging talk (she occasionally has a degradation kink), it must be on her terms. The way she sees it, if she's trusting someone enough to give them control over her, they must respect her. Note: she can slip on this, if she's obsessed with someone or otherwise unhealthily linked with them, but for me, I need established, written CR, and probably some OOC discussion before it gets to that point. It's not something I like to handwave unless it's with a writer I know fairly well.
Upbringing: Becca was raised Mormon. I have another post with other details. Becca is recovering from her religious upbringing that was, in some ways, traumatic for her. Granted, some of that trauma comes as much from religious abuse suffered at the hands of her parents, not just the church itself. Her mother, Deborah MacDonald, is controlling and overbearing, afraid of all things Different and Other. Despite the LDS way of encouraging wives to be subservient to their husbands, Joseph MacDonald let her rule the roost. At least at home - at church was another story. Becca's exposure to this facade her parents put on at every church event likely shaped her ideas about romantic relationships. Her mother's attempts to exert control fostered rebellion in Becca, which started at a young age. She questioned everything, much to the dismay of both her parents when she started questioning the church. Both of her parents worked (though her mother only part time), and her family was solidly of a middle class status. They had money, but she wasn't spoiled by any means. She wasn't allowed many sweets or other unhealthy foods, and given that the LDS church banned the consumption of coffee or tea, those were never in the MacDonald home. Nor was she exposed to alcohol or drugs of any kind. These were avenues for her rebellion in her teenage years - just the sight of a Starbucks cup would send her mother into a frenzy, never mind if Becca was caught smoking or drinking. She had tried cigarettes but didn't like them, though she did enjoy alcohol, and sometimes marijuana.
She has a younger sister, Bethany MacDonald. Once Bethany was born, she was the golden child. Becca was often neglected and ignored in favor of her sister, who was more devoted to the church and obedient to their parents. The little attention Becca did receive was often negative. As a very young child, her father would try to have a positive relationship, but Deborah's overbearing nature eventually stomped that out, and so Joseph stopped trying. Both parents instead shifted their focus to Bethany.

Writing Preferences: I tend to match my partners, tbh. I'm cool with prose or brackets, present or past tense. I will say though, that I do a fair amount of tagging on my phone, and prose makes that easier because I will fuck up HTML formatting on mobile.
OOC contact: I am on Discord at MxDR#1656 - I only ask that you DM me here to let me know who you are if adding me on Discord. DMs in general are always welcome.
Writing Schedule/Speed: I don't really have a set schedule, it's basically whenever I have the time and attention span. Either boomerang tags or I get distracted by stuff and reply more sporadically. I also have multiple RP accounts here (you are welcome to ask if you'd like to know about them), so I may be inspired to write one character more than another at any given time. But as far as my life/job, I work a weekday 9-5 type gig so I'm around the most on nights and weekends. That said, I have my phone with me at work and some days I can't focus soooo. Yeah.
Permissions: Backtagging is always welcome. Multiple threads are absolutely fine, but don't feel pressured to keep up if it's overwhelming. I'm not super big on thread-jacking? If you have an idea for something involving that, I'd appreciate being asked first. Please don't try to kill Becca without asking. Flirting with her is definitely okay, she will probably reciprocate. Flirting doesn't mean I ship it, necessarily. But... also I can probably be convinced to ship it. Attempts at physical affection with her are welcome, just know she may not always reciprocate or accept it. Any attempts at harming her or killing her outside of designated memes for those actions, I would really prefer you asked first. I'm more than happy to plot, whether it's memes or a private thread.
Plot Preferences: I love angst and fluff in equal measure. I struggle with action but I do like to try. I'm okay with smut, especially for Becca since it does tie into character development for her. Her character does open up possibilities for possible gory and violent situations, though I don't write that terribly often. That said, if you want to fade to black or otherwise avoid anything sexual, violent, or otherwise triggering, just let me know. Becca is not a fandom-specific OC, though I am more than willing to put her in different settings. If I come up with any substantial ideas for specific canons, I will make separate posts and link them here. This is a recent development, but I enjoy writing suspenseful threads, and it lends very well to Becca's character and her affinity for exploring haunted places.
Triggers & Limits: I like to say that when it comes to writing, I don't have triggers so much as I have squicks. I might get grossed out and uncomfortable, but it's not really causing a mental health issue for me, like a trigger would. The biggest squick I can think of for me would be any kind of eye-related gore or imagery. I'm also trypophobic, which I think ties into that. The typical "nopes" like animal cruelty/bestiality and toilet stuff are definitely off the table. I also don't want to do gore or torture for the sake of it - it'd have to tell a story. Pregnancy and childbirth are mild squicks for me, but I incorporate them into plots sparingly especially if there's a good story or character development to be had.
I really can't stress this enough - if you have any topics you wish for me to avoid in threads with you, please let me know. It's especially important that I know this for interactions with Becca, given the nature of her character. Comments on this entry are
screened in case you would like to respond with avoided topic requests here rather than in a DM.
And that's all for now! It's a lot, I know. I'm sorry. I don't know how to be concise. But if there's anything I missed, or anything you need more info or clarification on, feel free to comment or DM or whatever. Thanks for reading, and thanks for the threads!
